A dittybag is a kit used by soldiers and sailors to carry sundry items such as sewing implements; also known in the film industry as a tool bag that holds essential gear for a shoot.

Founded in 2014, dittybag is a series of projects that combine textiles and film to shed a modern light on mending.  As a division of FELT it makes use of remnants and overstock from the studio’s projects. Directed by Kathryn Walter and Greg Woodbury, dittybag takes the form of visual and media art projects, events, partnerships and an online presence with an aim to resonate in a world where so much stuff with so little meaning is produced in excess every day.

Kathryn Walter has maintained a studio practice since 1990, working at the intersection of visual art, design and material culture. In 2000 she founded FELT, a company, a studio and a label, to explore modern industrial felt through installations, exhibitions and a product line.

Greg Woodbury has worked in film and video since the 1980s, in production and post-production, as an administrator and in his own art practice. He has produced several single channel videos and installations and fostered the work of independent film/video/media artists through teaching, advocacy, technical support and creative collaboration.
